Nissan announced pricing for its 2014 Nissan Leaf vehicle this week, which is now available for $28,980, according to a company press release.

The 100 percent electric vehicle has big shoes to fill as the 2013 model set world records last year, according to the automaker.

Three different trim levels are available for the current Leaf: S, SV, and SL.

The mid-level 2014 Leaf SV is available for $32,850, including shipping. The 2014 Nissan Leaf SL starts at $35,870, including shipping, according to the press release.

The base model will be $180 more than the 2013 option.

Features interested customers can expect include: the new RearView Monitor, Around View Monitor, and a 7-inch Bose audio speaker.

"LEAF can be charged up to 80 percent of its full capacity in 30 minutes when equipped with a quick charge port and using a DC fast charger," Nissan said in their press release. "Charging at home through a 220V outlet is estimated to take approximately five hours with the 6.6 kW onboard charger (approximately eight hours with the S grade's standard 3.6 kW charger). The advanced lithium-ion battery pack carries an industry-competitive warranty of 8 years or 100,000 miles."

One new exterior color is available for the new Lead models: Gun Metallic.

Leaf vehicles have MPGe ratings of 126 city, 101 highway, and 114 combined, according to Nissan.

Nissan assembles all Leaf vehicles in the U.S. at their Nissan Smyran, Tennessee assembly plant. Battery production takes places close by at the biggest lithium-ion automotive battery plant "in the country" according to Nissan.

The Leaf competes with similar vehicles like the 2014 Chevrolet Volt and Ford Focus Electric.
