The new Mac Pro, which launched last month, may be Apple's most daring design yet.

Defying everything taken for granted about desktop computers, the powerful Mac Pro comes in a silvery, featureless aluminum cylinder that is 10 inches tall, Yahoo! Tech reported.

"[I]t has the most Applish design Apple has ever done," Yahoo said of the new device. "It's an out-there, controversial, very brave trashing of everything we ever knew about desktop computer shapes."

Manufactured in the United States, the computer connects to a wall outlet with a single black cord, and its shell can be removed to show the memory and workings inside.

The Mac Pro is incredibly fast, with up to 64 gigabytes of memory and a rapid-fire flash memory that acts as the computer's hard drive.

Compared with the old Mac Pro, which came in at 40 pounds and was 20 inches tall, the latest model is a sleek improvement.

Yahoo posed this question about the new desktop: "Is it so artsy that it's less useful?"

Unlike its predecessor, the latest Mac Pro doesn't allow for expansion at all. There's no room inside for new hard drives and circuit boards or a DVD player. Those components can be added externally with Thunderbolt connectors, six tiny jacks on the Mac Pro.

According to Apple, the "everything crammed into one computer" model is on its way out.

"Nowadays, professional creative companies install centralized storage-shared network hard drives tucked away in a server closet somewhere," Yahoo explained.

Outer hard drives keep the heat and noise away from the user (the new Mac Pro contains just one fan, while the old model had eight).

Apple has also noted that the old Mac Pro had too much space for some and too little for others; on the other hand, the new model allows people to build computers to fit their specific needs.

"Apple designed the new Mac Pro to be only the brain, with all of its organs external, so that you can build precisely the system you need," Yahoo reported.
