2014 Detroit Auto Show Preview: Mercedes-Benz Showcases 2015 GLA45 AMG

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its 2015 GLA45 AMG right before the model's planned world debut at next week's Detroit Auto Show.

The 2015 model will reportedly make its world debut on Jan. 13 at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new AMG and other 2015 GLA-Class models are expected to start selling in the third quarter of this year.

This new high-performance version of the Mercedes Benz GLA-Class is lower in comparison to the regular GLA because of new aero components and AMG-specific suspension, Motor Authority said.

The AMG, which also has stiffer knuckles and springs, holds a turbo-charged engine that is the most powerful four-cylinder in production with 355 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque, according to Motor Authority.

The same engine is housed in the A45 AMG sold overseas as well as the 2014 CLA45 AMG.

Featuring 19-inch alloy wheels, the GLA45 AMG relies on an all-wheel drive system that divides torque evenly between the front and rear wheels, according to Motor Authority.

The AMG has seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission and boasts 0-60 mph acceleration in only 4.8 seconds, the outlet said. The car reaches top speeds of about 155 mph.

The vehicle's electronic stability program has three settings: ESP ON, SPORT Handling Mode and ESP Off, just like other AMGs.

"The system also includes a brake-operated torque vectoring system called ESP Curve Dynamic, where imperceptible braking interventions on the rear inside wheel during cornering helps create a defined yaw moment about the vertical axis and aids handling," Motor Authority reported. "These systems work in conjunction with the car's AMG speed-sensitive electronic sports steering system."

The 2014 CLA45 AMG won Motor Authority's Best Performance/Luxury Car To Buy 2014.
