General Motors has announced it'll recall approximately 9,466 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickup trucks equipped with 6.6-liter V8 diesel engines and dual fuel tanks, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The vehicles were produced from April 1, 2012 through May 31, 2013.

The vehicles are being recalled thanks to a problem with the fuel pump, according to the NHTSA.

"In the affected vehicles, the transfer pump which moves fuel from the rear tank to the front tank could malfunction and cause the fuel gauge to indicate an inaccurate reading," 
said NHTSA in its summary.

Currently no known crashes or injuries have occurred due to the recall, according to Alan Adler, a GM spokesman, who spoke with Edmunds 

GM dealers are being instructed to replace the fuel transfer pump. A recall date has not yet been confirmed yet by the automaker.  

"If the fuel gauge indicates an inaccurate reading, it may result in the vehicle unexpectedly stalling, increasing the risk of a crash," said the NHTSA.
