2015 Ford Corvette Stingray Available With Optional Performance Data Recorder

General Motors has announced that the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will be made available with an optional Performance Data Recorder (PDR), which will let users record their drive experiences, according to the automaker.

GM confirmed the news this weekend at the 2014 International CES.

The option won't be made available until the third quarter of 2014.

"The fully integrated system enables users to record high-definition video, with telemetry overlays, of their drive experiences on and off the track," GM said in a statement.

The new device was developed with British motorsports-engineering company Cosworth, which supplies the Corvette Racing team's "data acquisition and telemetry electronics system," according to Edmunds.

GM's new PDR is made up of three components: a high-definition camera that records the driver's point of view, a microphone to record audio in the cabin, and a telemetry recorder that uses a GPS receiver, according to GM.

The recorder also records vehicle information, ranging from steering-wheel angle and engine speed.

GM said owners will be able to make videos of their performance that can be viewed on the Corvette Stingray's touchscreen or on a computer.

Pricing will be announced closer to launch, and images of the PDR will be released this week, according to Afaf Farah, a GM spokeswoman, who spoke with Edmunds.
