2014 Detroit Auto Show Preview: Nissan Announces Sport Concept World Debut

Nissan has confirmed that the new Nissan Sport Sedan Concept will make its world debut at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show.

Giving an advanced look at a sports sedan to be produced in the future, the concept "previews a new energetic design direction that amplifies Nissan's legendary approach of applying sports car principles to a sedan," said a press release.

The Sports Sedan Concept will be accompanied by the Nissan IDx Freeflow and IDx NISMO concepts, which will be making their North American debuts. Both vehicles were recently showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The Freeflow and NISMO are two distinct approaches to a next-generation compact vehicle: One is lifestyle-oriented and casual, while the other is "ultra-sporty" with a video game-esque style, according to the press release.

The three concepts will be unveiled on Jan. 13 at a press conference and featured through the show's public days.

Nissan showcased a futuristic Bladeglider concept at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show as well. The Japanese automaker called the model an "exploratory prototype of an upcoming production vehicle," according to a company press release.

Like the upcoming NISMO concept, the Bladeglider has sporty influences.

"I think there are elements we can bring from the race track to make these future road cars more exciting, more fulfilling and give greater driving pleasure," Ben Bowlby, director of Nissan Motorsport Innovation, said in a statement.

The 2014 North American International Auto Show will be held Jan. 13-26. Last year's event featured 71 vehicle debuts that included 61 worldwide introductions, according to the show's website. Nearly 800,000 visitors came to last year's show.

The 2014 event will also host the Michelin Challenge Design and the EyesOn Design Awards.
