Volkswagen has reported it sold over 100,000 clean-diesel vehicles in 2013, according to a company press release.

This is the first time the automaker has reached the 100,000 mark for clean-diesel vehicles sold in a single year.

"Selling more than 100,000 TDI Clean Diesel vehicles is a significant milestone for Volkswagen Group of America," said Mark McNabb, Volkswagen of America chief operating officer, in a statement.

Seven Volkswagen models are sold with clean diesel technology, including: the Beetle, Beetle Convertible, Golf, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, Passat and Touareg.

Audi, a sister brand of Volkswagen, is also part of the clean-diesel record total in the U.S.

Models currently sold by Audi includes the Q5 TDI, Q7 TDI, A6 TDI, A7 TDI and A8 TDI, according to the company press release.

In summer 2014, Audi will debut the 2015 Audi A3 TDI. The automaker has high-hopes for the new A3, as it might help the German automaker reach the 100,000 milestone again next yet.

"We're excited to see the increasing numbers of customers able to enjoy the reliability, durability, fuel-efficiency and power of the clean diesel engine," said McNabb.
