Female celebrities are often known for styling the latest in fashion. But Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway has made waves for riding in a car so new that it isn't yet available in the United States.
The 31-year-old, who earlier this year won Best Actress for playing Fantine in Tom Cooper's "Les Miserables," was spotted in a red BMW i3 electric car on Saturday, the New York Daily News reported via TMZ.
The snazzy new EV won't be available in the U.S. until mid-2014 but has been selling in Europe since last month, going for around $42,000.
The first mass production electric vehicle for BMW Group, the i3 debuted in July and has a driving range of 80-100 miles, according to BMW. The new model should also launch in China and Japan sometime in the next six months.
Hathaway was photographed in the passenger seat of the car as her husband, Adam Shulman, drove the couple to the grocery store.
The pair wed in September 2012 after three years of dating. Shulman, who proposed to Hathaway with a custom engagement ring, recently showcased his jewelry collection with a promotional party in Dallas.
Named after Shulman's grandfather, the James Banks jewelry line features designs with a unique goal in mind: "to create the modern-day equivalent of estate treasures."
Hathaway also made waves last week for another incident involving a car.
The "One Day" actress was in headlines for an unusual present left on the windshield of a paparazzo's car on Thursday.
After taking a walk with her dog, Esmerelda, Hathaway cleaned up after the pet and left a plastic bag of dog poop on the photographer's windshield, The Huffington Post reported.
