Empire State Building Celebrates Christmas with First-Ever Lights Show

The Empire State Building will light up for a festive Christmas show through Christmas Eve for the first time ever this year.

Starting at 7 p.m. Friday, the New York City landmark will glow with holiday colors each evening for a lights and music show with 106.7 Lite fm, which will be playing holiday hits and classics.

People can tune in on the radio or the iHeartRadio app or stream the show online.

According to Metro, the show will be viewed best from Brooklyn Bridge, Bryant Park, The Highline, Hoboken/Jersey City Waterfront, Hudson River Esplanade, Long Island City, Madison Square Park, Tribeca Park, Union Square, Jackson Square and the Williamsburg Waterfront.

The show will put to use the building's new Philips Color Kinetics LED lighting system, which was installed last year. The LED lights replaced used incandescent lights, according to NBC News.

"Synchronizing the Empire State Building's incredible LED lights with Lite fm's Christmas music is our early holiday gift for all New Yorkers," said Tom Poleman, president of national programming platforms for Clear Channel, which owns the radio station, as quoted by NBC News.

A video of the show will also be posted immediately after on the building's YouTube page.

The Christmas Eve finale will be a little different--the radio station plans to gather feedback from YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, iHeartRadio and more to arrange the last show.

The Empire State Building and Macy's partnered to bring a Fourth of July lights show this past summer, also for the first time. The show, which was created by world-famous lighting design artist Marc Brickman, is available online along with the Halloween light show.
