Lamborghini has introduced a new luxury sports car set to debut next year.

Replacing the now 10-year-old Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, the new Lamborghini Huracán is "lighter, slicker and more powerful," CNET reported.

The model's name stems from "the fighting bull Huracán of the Spanish Conte de la Patilla breed was known for his outstanding courage and strong sense of attack," according to Lamborghini.

CNET notes that Lamborghini describes the vehicle as a "luxury super sports car" rather than a "supercar," which hints at more variants on the new car in the future.

"The exterior of the Huracán looks, understandably, like an updated Gallardo, but with a great deal of simplifying to the wedge shaped coupe's details," CNET described. "The door handles now sit flush with the sheet metal, levering out when pressed like those of the Jaguar F-Type. The vehicle also looks wider and lower than the car that it replaces."

The 610-horsepower car features state-of-the-art LED lighting and a Y-shaped headlamp and tail light design. Inside, the cockpit has a 12.3 inch full-color instrument panel with navigation and other vehicle information, and the lush but sporty interior is upholstered in fine Nappa leather and Alcantara.

The initial peek at the Huracán revealed a black on silver color scheme with red or yellow stitching, but the interior should feature plenty of options in the future.

Unveiled at a private event, Lamborghini's latest model gets about 18.8 miles per gallon and features three driving modes: Strada, Sport and Corsa, which go from "mildest to wildest." Switching between the modes changes up the car's engine, the sound of the exhaust and the four-wheel-drive system, among other things.

The Huracán will likely be featured at 130 or so more events before its public debut at the 2014 Geneva International Motor Show in March.
