Maserati North America is recalling its 2014 Maserati Quattroporte GTS V8 cars over faulty battery cables that may short out, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Approximately 39 cars are involved in the recall.

"The affected vehicles have an improper Y-connection crimp in the alternator-starter motor wiring harness," said NHTSA in its summary. "The improper crimp could cause the battery positive cable to short to ground which may cause the wiring harness to overheat and result in a fire.

The issue could cause a fire or stall the engine.

Maserati said to the NHTSA that there have been no reports of this issue in any U.S. vehicle, but "through an abundance of caution Maserati is launching this recall campaign."

"The car also may stall, increasing the risk of a crash," said the NHTSA.

Maserati dealers are being told to replace the alternator-starter wiring harness in each vehicle. The recall is expected to begin later on this month.
