A study conducted by CarInsuranceComparison.com determined that Louisiana has the worst drivers of any state in the U.S.

The site made its list based on statistics from sources like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the National Motorists Association and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Five separate categories were established to determine who had the worst drivers, including: Fatality Rate per 100 Million Vehicle Miles Traveled, Failure To Obey Traffic Laws, Drunk Driving, Ticketing Rate and Careless-Driving Citations.

Louisiana earned its ranking from the website by finishing in the top five in three different categories, Failure to Obey, Ticketing Rate and Careless Driving.

"Keep in mind that not only are bad drivers aggravating and dangerous, but they contribute to increased auto insurance premiums in your state," the site warned drivers recently.

The state's worst score was in the Careless Driving category, which it ranked 48th. Its best rating was for the Drunk Driving category, which it finished 38th.

Other states to make the top 10 included: South Carolina, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Missouri (tie), North Carolina (tie), Montana and North Dakota.

The ten states or districts with the best drivers according to the site are: Vermont, Utah, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Oregon, Maine, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Iowa and Massachusetts.

Louisiana topped the list for the second consecutive year.
