AutoTrader.com Adds Text, Email Alerts for Car Shoppers

Online car shopping just got even easier.

AutoTrader.com has launched a new feature that will automatically update users through text or email when saved vehicle listings are updated, according to a press release.

Potential buyers can save searches or vehicle listings to their My AutoTrader accounts and opt to receive alerts if the listing price drops, a special offer is added or brand-new inventory debuts, said the press release.

The My AutoTrader account can be accessed online or on a mobile device. Alerts will be sent to shoppers once a day, and the feature has been activated on all 3 million AutoTrader.com listings.

According to a recent AutoTrader.com survey, car shopping has grown to be an increasingly on-demand process, with about 75 percent of car shopping happening as a spur of the moment activity.

More people are also shopping for new vehicles through PCs, mobile devices and tablets, often through a combination of devices. AutoTrader.com projects that more than 50 percent of car shopping during the next five years will take place on multiple devices.

"We're always looking for ways to make car buying and selling easier for both consumers and our customers, and this new feature is a great example of that focus," said Steve Greenfield, vice president of product management for AutoTrader.com.

"Alerts allow us to meet the needs of today's sellers, who want to make sure that interested shoppers are aware of the vehicles and incentives offered, and today's shoppers who are looking for more of a personal experience."

To use the new alerts feature, AutoTrader.com users need to sign up for an account, then select the option to receive alerts, which can be sent by text, email or both.
