Washington Auto Show: Green Car Journal Announces Top 10 Green Car Technology Award Finalists

Green Car Journal has announced 10 finalists for its annual Green Car Technology Award, which will be presented at the upcoming Washington Auto Show.

American, European and Japanese automakers are included on the prestigious list, which focuses on new technologies that further environmental performance in vehicles, said a press release.

The finalists are the Acura Sport Hybrid SH-AWD Powertrain; Audi 3.0-liter TDI Diesel Engine; BMW i3 CFRP Passenger Cell; Cadillac ELR Regen on Demand; Ford 1.0-liter EcoBoost Engine; Honda Accord Plug-In Powertrain; Hyundai Fuel Cell; Mazda i-ELOOP Brake Energy Regeneration System; Porsche Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain and Ram Truck 3.0-Liter EcoDiesel Engine.

"Advanced technology plays an increasingly important role in the development of cars and trucks capable of achieving significantly greater levels of efficiency and improved environmental impact," said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com. "While new and advanced vehicle models get the limelight, it's these underlying technologies that make their amazing achievements possible. Their crucial role is acknowledged through the Green Car Technology Award at the Washington Auto Show."

The 2014 Washington Auto Show will be held Jan. 23 to Feb. 2 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

The largest public show in Washington, D.C., the Washington Auto Show draws hundreds of thousands of visitors and is renowned for showcasing the latest in sustainable technologies, according to the show's website. This year's event will feature more than 700 makes and models from more than 40 manufacturers.

"We are proud that Green Car Journal has partnered with the Washington Auto Show to host this prestigious award, as this is the auto show where technology and innovation are paramount," said Kevin Reilly, president of Alexandria Hyundai and chairman of the 2014 Washington Auto Show.

The Green Technology Award recipient will be honored on Jan. 24.
