Kia's 2014 Sedona has earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The redesigned model received five stars in side and front crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test, according to a company press release.

Both LX and EX trim level options are covered under these ratings.

"The Sedona earning NHTSA's 5-Star safety rating is an honor and an accomplishment," said Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing & communications, KMA, in a statement.

The Sedona comes with six standard airbags, which includes full-length side curtain airbags for all three seating rows.

Safety features on the 2014 model besides the six standard airbags includes active front headrests, a four-channel, four-sensor Antilock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD).

"Kia's rise over the last five years has been fueled by offering the right combination of design, quality, value and safety to our customers, and the five-star accolade for the Sedona is the kind of reassurance minivan buyers are looking for when shopping for a new vehicle," said Sprague.

Kia's Sedona minivan was re-launched for the 2014 model year. The vehicle competes with the similar models like the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna.

The 2014 Sedona has not been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety yet.
