Honda has confirmed that the redesigned Honda Ridgeline will be released within the next "two years."

The Ridgeline will compete with the likes of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks.

A teaser image of the upcoming Ridgeline shows what appears to be a more conventional pickup bed. Honda did not spell out a model-year designation or provide technical specifications for the future Ridgeline.

Honda will also end production of the first-generation Ridgeline no later than mid-2014, according to a company press release.

The current Ridgeline has been called the "anti-pickup pickup" by multiple media outlets, and for good reason. The vehicle doesn't come with a V8 engine and has a max. towing capacity of 5,000 lbs.

The Ridgeline also competes with the Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma.

"The next-generation Ridgeline will build on Honda's role in creating new value with a new take on advancing form and function in the truck segment," said Michael Accavitti, senior vice president of automobile operations for American Honda Motor Co. "With a clear path forward, Ridgeline will play an even more important role in our future product portfolio and strengthen an already class-leading lineup of light trucks."

The redesigned Ridgeline is currently being designed and developed in the U.S., according to Honda.

Honda claims to have sold 16,160 Ridgelines during the first 11 months of 2013.
