A new Audi crossover concept to be showcased at the 2014 North American International Auto Show will feature an "e-tron" badge hinting at green technology, The Telegraph reported.

Audi has released new images of the three-door concept, which has a similar shape to the A3. Despite the e-tron badge, Audi hasn't released any technical details about the vehicle concept except stating that it has 19-inch alloy wheels.

Measuring 13.8 feet long, the crossover concept has "a compact body with high ground clearance, a two-door layout and a shooting brake body style," according to GreenCarReports.

While similar to the A3, the new concept seems to have "a smaller glass area and higher ride height" as well as a large front grille and aluminum skid plates under the front and rear bumpers.

The new concept could be a precursor to the next Audi compact crossover, but the company hasn't confirmed that yet.

The compact size of the new concept hints that it could be the next planned production model, but it could also be a look at the next Q3 and Q5 or the next generation of Audi's A4 and A6, according to The Telegraph.

Audi has announced production of a new compact SUV that could hit dealerships in 2016.

"It is designed on the basis of the modular transverse engine concept and will round off our Q series at the bottom end," Rupert Stadler, chairman of the board of management of Audi AG, said in a statement.

The brand plans to increase its lineup from 49 models to more than 60.

The 2014 North American International Auto Show will be held Jan. 13-26 in Detroit. It will feature 71 vehicle debuts that include 61 worldwide introductions, according to the show's website. The event will also host the Michelin Challenge Design and the EyesOn Design Awards.
