Infiniti plans to reveal a new Formula One-inspired concept car at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The concept is based on the Infiniti Q50 premium sports sedan, according to a press release.

Representing a high performance version of the Q50, the car is called "Q50 Eau Rouge," a name that suits its bold, red exterior and pays homage to the famous corner at the Formula One track in Spa-Francorchamps.

A spot for some of the most amazing driving feats in Formula One history, maneuvering the corner "requires extraordinary strength, courage and commitment," said the press release.

The Q50 Eau Rouge implements both technology and motorsport vision; its aerodynamic styling and design were inspired by Infiniti's partnership with Formula One world championship-winning team Infiniti Red Bull Racing.

"Performance is a key pillar of Infiniti's DNA and this car expresses a deepened design interpretation of that. The Q50, with an abundance of technologies, provides a great basis for an extreme performance version, embodied in the design of Q50 Eau Rouge," Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti's executive design director, said in the press release.

The Hong Kong-based brand recently showcased the Infiniti Q30 concept car's North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Infiniti officials expect significant growth in the premium compact segment, especially among young people. The Q30 concept is a precursor to a model that Infiniti plans to roll out sometime next year.

The 2014 North American International Auto Show, featuring the Q50 Eau Rouge, will be held Jan. 13-26. It will feature 71 vehicle debuts that include 61 worldwide introductions, according to the show's website. The event will also host the Michelin Challenge Design and the EyesOn Design Awards.
