National Electric Vehicle Sweden has restarted production of its Saab 9-3 sedan at its Trollhattan production plant in Sweden.

The company will make a gas-powered 9-3 first, and then has plans to follow it up with an electric model in 2014, according to a company press release.

The vehicle, which originally contained GM parts, will be modified to create the new 9-3, according to the company press release.

"The 9-3 platform will be replaced by a new platform where the Phoenix architecture is one of the assets which will be put to use," the company said in a press statement.

NEVS said the 9-3 will be sold in China and Europe. The vehicle could eventually sold in the U.S., though no plans have been solidified yet.

NEVS has also not confirmed production numbers or prices as of press time.

"Development work for the first electric vehicle is in progress, and launch is planned for early 2014," said a statement by the company on its website. "The initial EV model is based on Saab 9-3 technologies, enhanced and modified for electric drive."

Saab filed for bankruptcy back in December 2011 and was purchased by the Chinese-Swedish investment group in 2012.
