Sony's new PlayStation 4 was launched in the UK at midnight, and the system is supposedly already starting to sell out" according to BBC News.

Amazon has said that customers who didn't preorder the device in the U.K. before Nov. 13 would likely not receive the system before Christmas due to its popularity.

The UK launch came just about two weeks after the PS4 debuted in the U.S., and a week after Microsoft's Xbox One was launched worldwide. Both devices sold over a million units in the first 24 hours available.

 "We are starting to sell out - very rapidly but (we) will continue to work with all parts of the supply chain including our partners at retail to get more, as and when we can," a Sony spokesman said to BBC.

Retailer GAME reported that demand for preorders for the PS4 were "four times higher" than it had seen for the PS3.

Amazon has predicted that the PS4 will become the fastest selling console in the UK, overtaking the Xbox One, which has held the record for about a week.

It's not all good news for both Sony and Microsoft however, as both companies have reported technology issues since their launches in the U.S. and around the world.

Sony users have complained that a blue light continuously flashed in front of their console, which has affected its operation, according to BBC.

Many Xbox One users have said that the system's disc drive is making a loud noise whenever they try inserting a disc, and sometimes the device doesn't read a new disc at all.
