Five workers were injured on Nov. 22 after a fire and tank explosion at an Encana Corp natural gas field in western Wyoming, according to Reuters.
Police confirmed that they received a number of calls regarding the blast at approximately 10:18 a.m. local time at Encana's Antelope 91-29H facility in the Jonah Field near Pinedale,
The facility is approximately about 230 miles west of Casper, Wyoming.
"We know that some welding work was being conducted on the condensate tanks on location, however the exact reason for the explosion is not known at this time," said Bridget Ford, a spokeswoman for Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc.
Ford said one of the injured workers had to be airlifted to hospital in critical condition and the rest were taken, by ambulance, to a local hospital.
Firefighters were able to battle the blaze, which died out by 1 p.m., Ford added.
A drilling rig near the facility where the incident took place was supposedly not affected by the blast. Ford added that there was also no "apparent environmental impact," according to Reuters.
"Our thoughts are with our friends and co-workers that were hurt today, and their families, Ford said.
Encana and its contracting company are currently working with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, has opened an investigating into incident to figure out what happened.
