Midwest Tornadoes: 6 Confirmed Dead in Illinois, Entire Neighborhoods Destroyed (VIDEO)

At least six people were killed as a result of tornadoes and heavy storms that took place in Illinois this weekend, according to Reuters.

Approximately 80 tornado reports were received over the weekend, along with 358 reports of damaging winds and 40 reports of large hail, according to Rich Thompson, a forecaster with the weather service's Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

"We have reports of homes being flattened, roofs being torn off. We have actual whole neighborhoods being demolished by the storm," said Sara Sparkman, a spokeswoman for the Tazewell County, Illinois health department, according to Reuters.

Governor Pat Quinn will tour the towns hit hardest by the tornadoes this week.

The confirmed tour will include the town of Washington, where one person was killed due to injuries sustained during the storm, according to ABC News. Two others were killed in Washington County near St. Louis, and three were killed in downstate Massac County.

Washington Mayor Gary Manier said approximately 250 to 500 homes were either damaged or destroyed during the storm. He said he isn't sure when residents will be allowed to return home.

"Everybody's without power, but some people are without everything," Manier said in a statement.

The National Weather Service confirmed the EF-4 tornado damage in Washington County in southern Illinois, with winds of up to 200 mph.
