'300 Sandwiches' Blogger Signs Book Deal, Is Now at Sandwich No. 197

The "300 Sandwiches" blogger is slicing more than bread these days.

Stephanie Smith, known for her mission to make 300 sandwiches for her boyfriend, just cut a book deal with Random House's Zinc Inc, which is headed by David Zinczenko and Stephen Perrine, the New York Post reported.

"Steve and I are both longtime friends of Stephanie from her days covering the magazine business for Women's Wear Daily," said Zinczenko, a longtime editor-in-chief of Men's Health and now consulting for Men's Fitness through his Galvanized Brands consulting firm. "So when she told us about her romantic, passionate and very funny quest to make her boyfriend 300 sandwiches, our first reaction was, 'That's a book.'"

Smith, who is the Post's Page Six reporter, revealed herself as the woman behind the 300 Sandwiches blog in September.

"After I made him a sandwich--your basic turkey and swiss cheese--one day for lunch, he told me, "Honey, you're 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring," she said.

After the joking comment from her boyfriend, Eric Schulte, she decided to start the ambitious task of making 300 sandwiches and blogged about them, sharing recipes and anecdotes on the website.

While Schulte usually does more of the cooking, Smith enjoyed getting into the kitchen herself.

"My own mother was doubtful," Smith said. "'Honey, can you even cook?' she asked. No, but I'll learn!"

Smith did indeed learn to cook, if the photos on the website are accurate, and has enjoyed the time with her partner.

"Making all of these sammies, I've learned how much Eric loves sharing cooking with me," she said. "He enjoys going to the grocery store with me, picking out ingredients and planning dinners. Though I still want to get engaged and get married and live happily ever after, I've also put less pressure on the race to the 300th sandwich and I'm enjoying the cooking experience with Eric."

As of Tuesday, Smith was at 197 sandwiches. The book should be released around Valentine's Day 2015.
