2015 Lincoln MKC Debuts; New Luxury Model Features Stylish Design, Safety Technology

The 2015 Lincoln MKC has been unveiled, complete with a turbocharged engine and premium amenities, said a Lincoln Motor Company press release.

The new small premium utility vehicle features a four-cylinder engine producing 275 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque. It was first introduced as a concept vehicle at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The Lincoln MKC has a sleek body, a plush leather interior and a state-of-the-art audio system.

"We gave attention to every detail to convey a stylish, fashion-oriented vehicle," said Soo Kang, Lincoln interior design chief. "Our use of colors, materials, stitching--every detail was considered to create an overall luxurious experience."

The MKC also uses technology for a safer driving experience, offering collision warning with brake support and driver assist to help drivers avoid accidents. The collision warning system serves to warn the driver in the event of a potential front-end crash, issuing three alerts: an audible alert inside, a visual alert on the windshield and brake assist.

The small luxury model also offers technology to help with parking, using both "park assist" to guide drivers into difficult spots and "park-out assist" to steer drivers out of tighter spots.

Following the 2013 Lincoln MKZ Sedan, the Lincoln MKC is the second model of the four luxury vehicles the brand plans to roll out by 2016, said the press release.

As part of the luxury market, the small premium utility vehicle segment has expanded 25 percent since 2012 and 200 percent since 2009.

"Lincoln MKC is a perfect blend of inspired automotive design and dynamic driving performance in a segment that has grown in popularity in recent years," said Jim Farley, executive vice president of Ford global marketing, sales and service and Lincoln. "As a challenger luxury brand, entering this segment is a natural next step for us. MKC will do more than just compete--it will change the way people think about Lincoln."
