Romano Dias: Dad Dies After Drinking Liquid Meth He Thought Was a Health Drink

An innocent British father died this week after swallowing a massive amount of liquid crystal methamphetamine, which he thought was a health drink, Gawker reported via Cambridge News.

Romano Dias, 55, of Impington, took what he thought was a fruit-based drink from his daughter Katee Dias and drank a large amount of the liquid. Almost immediately, he said it was "awful" and complained that his throat burned.

Soon after, Dias said, "I am in trouble here. I am dying, I am dead."

Police analysis revealed that the bottle contained £34,000 ($54,430) of pure meth, something highly unusual for Cambridgeshire.

"The £34,000 is a significant amount," Detective Inspector Ian Simmons said. "I would say it is highly likely it was destined for a dealer ... It is unique; this is not an event that happens in Cambridgeshire or elsewhere."

Dias and his family were apparently unconnected to the drug. The bottle, which authorities believe was part of a scheme to bring Class A drugs into the UK, was part of a package delivered to the family three years ago.

The inquest found that the package was left outside Katee Dias' home in London with the correct address but the wrong name. She kept the parcel, thinking someone would claim it, and much later passed the bottle on to her father.

Authorities are still unsure why the man consumed the liquid. His partner, Debra Dulson, said in a statement that Dias opened the bottle and found a cork under the cap.

The death, which Coroner William Morris called "a dreadful case," was ruled an accident. The level of meth in the bottle was well above the lethal dose, according to pathologist Dr. John Grant.
