A sales director at Lamborghini of Atlanta and his team broke the Cannonball Run record by completing the journey in just 28 hours and 50 minutes.

The previous record was 31 hours and 4 minutes, according to CNN.

Ed Bolian, the rest of his crew, and a Mercedes CL 55 broke the previous record after years of preparation which included a strategy to escape traffic and police.

The 27-year-old broke the record by crossing the U.S., from New York to Los Angeles going at an average speed of 157.7 km/h.

Bolian used a 2004 Mercedes CL55 for the journey, which was equipped with a GPS, a police scanner, and a CB Radio.

Two additional 22-gallon fuel tanks were installed in the vehicle, according to Jalpnik.com.

"The hardest thing, quite honestly, was finding people crazy enough to do it with me," Bolian said.

The crew set out on Oct. 19 from Midtown Manhattan and reached Redondo Beach, C.A. Bolian said the entire journey was recorded by GPS and everything went "perfect."

The day Bolian chose to leave was also carefully thought out, as they had clear weather and a full moon. They also picked routes that wouldn't have much traffic.

"I had plenty of people at home praying I'd make it safely, and, more importantly, had my wife praying that I wouldn't have to do it again," Bolian said. "That was one of the spurs to go ahead and get this over with. That's probably the next adventure."

The Cannonball Run started 1933 when Edwin "Cannonball" Baker drove from N.Y. to L.A. in 53 hours driving a car called the Blue Streak.
