Ford Recall: 2012-14 Focus Electric Recalled For Potential Loss of Power

Ford has announced it will recall 2,618 Ford Focus Electric cars over complaints the vehicles wheels lose power while driving, according to the automaker.

At least one crash has been caused due to the issue, but there have been no injuries.

"The issue is caused by software anomalies associated with the Powertrain Control Module," said Kelli Felker, a Ford spokeswoman, according to Edmunds. "If this condition occurs, the vehicle's braking and steering systems will continue to operate normally so the driver can pull safely off the road."

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has yet to comment on the recall.

The affected models were produced at the Michigan Assembly Plant from September 15, 2011 through August 8, 2013.

Ford dealers are being instructed to reprogram the Powertrain Control Module.

An official recall date has not been announced by the automaker as of yet.
