The Chevrolet Camaro was named the most popular "sporty" car brand among thieves this week, according to a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau reveals.
The study was determined based on sporty cars released for the 2010-'12 model years.
The Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger finished second and third in the study.
Approximately 1,509 Camaro vehicles were reported stolen according to the study. Mustang followed with 980 thefts and 782 Challenger thefts were reported as well.
California had the most sporty vehicle thefts, with Florida and Texas rounding out the top three. New York, Los Angeles and Detroit were named the top three cities for unrecovered stolen vehicles, however.
The popular Chevrolet Corvette was the sixth most stolen car, falling behind the Porsche Panamera and the Audi A5/S5.

The BMW 6 Series, Nissan 370Z, Porsche 911 and Volkswagen Eos, were also popular vehicles among thieves according to the study.
