Lamborghini Recall: 2006-10 Murcielago and Gallardo Called Back Over Brake Issues

Lamborghini has announced it will recall 404 Lamborghini Murcielago Coupes and Roadsters and 263 Gallardo Coupes and Spyders with carbon ceramic brake discs since the screws may fail, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects Murcielago Coupes released for the 2006-10 model years, and Gallardo Coupes and Spyders released for the 2007-09 model years.

"The stainless steel screws that secure the brake rotors may fail after being exposed to salty conditions," said NHTSA in its summary. "Failure of the securing screws may result in a reduction of braking ability, increasing the risk of a crash."

Lamborghini told the NHTSA that a customer "will experience a noise when a screw fails."

The automaker said they have not been notified of any vehicle losing more than three screws worldwide. No screw failures have taken place in the U.S.

There have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to the recall, according to the NHTSA.

"If the affected disc was to lose 8 of the 10 screws, there would be a loss of braking at that wheel," the company said.

Lamborghini dealers are being instructed to replace the screws, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin sometime in November.
