One Direction Releases New Track 'Story of My Life' (LISTEN)

One Direction debuted new song "Story of My Life" on Friday, the second single off the band's next record, "Midnight Memories," due in stores Nov. 25.

"Story of My Life" is a switch from the peppy energy of lead single "Best Song Ever." The ballad opens with a folky guitar arrangement and heartbreaking lyrics, MTV reported.

"Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain/ I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days/ She told me in the morning she don't feel the same about us in her bones/ It seems to me that when I die, these words will be written on my stone."

The new single could be the band's best yet, according to One Direction member Niall Horan. The Irish star spoke with Capital FM right before the new single's release.

"This track is not actually one that we wrote this time," he said. "A good friend of ours and a songwriter called Jamie Scott who's in a band called Graffti6--he wrote this song.

He's written a few for us before like 'More Than This' and on the last few albums," Horan said.

The song was an immediately hit among the band members after Scott played it for them.

"We were in Nottingham on tour when we were touring the UK back in February and March and we just came into a room one day and he was like 'I've got this song that I've written and I want to play you'. And we just fell in love with it the second we heard it," Horan told Capital FM.

The single, which officially hits retailers on Monday, has an emotional chorus with the lyrics "The story of my life, I take her home/ I drive all night to keep her warm/ And time is frozen (the story of, the story of)/ The story of my life, I give her hope/ I spend her love until she's broke inside/ The story of my life (the story of, the story of)."

"It's up there with the best that we've brought out but 'Story Of My Life' might just take it," Horan said. "It's a very passionate song and when you see the video that goes with it, it suits it as well."
