An 11-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday in Vancouver for bringing 400 rounds of ammunition, multiple knives and a handgun to school with the intention of shooting another student, CNN reported.
No one was injured in the bizarre incident where the middle school boy allegedly planned to shoot a classmate for calling his friend gay.
He told school officials that "a voice in his head was telling him to kill", according to the probable cause document.
"He stated a voice told him killing (the classmate) was a good idea; however he planned to just shoot (the classmate) in the arm and then shoot himself in the head," the document said.
The boy, a student at Frontier Middle School, was booked into a juvenile detention facility after authorities were alerted by his mother. She called the school concerned that her son had taken kitchen knives with him that day, according to court documents. School resource officers patted down the boy and discovered the weapons and ammunition.
The 11-year-old is being held on charges of attempted assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon at school. The attempted murder charge could return as prosecutors gather more information, according to CNN's report.
Clark County Juvenile Court has ordered a mental competency hearing. The boy remains in custody and his case will be reviewed Friday, The Columbian reported.
The incident came as the latest in a string of violent incidents related to children that occurred across the nation this week. Monday saw a math teacher killed and two students wounded by a boy who then killed himself in a Nevada school. On Tuesday, deputies in California shot and killed a 13-year-old who was carrying a toy gun. Math teacher Colleen Ritzer was found dead on Wednesday, and a 14-year-old was charged with her murder.
