Ant-Man Movie Casting Rumors: Paul Rudd or Joseph Gordon-Levitt Could Play Lead Role in Next Marvel Flick

Casting rumors have been flying about Marvel's next comic book enterprise, "Ant-Man," and the latest have tabbed actors Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as leading contenders.

While another actor could still emerge, it seems Gordon-Levitt and Rudd are the top picks for the film, according to Variety.

"Sources indicate [Rudd and Gordon-Levitt] are expected to meet with Marvel execs and Wright one more time before a decision is made and that there's also a possibility of another actor entering the mix," Variety said.

The "Inception" actor denied the report hours later during an interview with France's Allocine on Tuesday.

"It's always rumors," Gordon-Levitt told the outlet. "I talk about my future projects, so if you don't hear it from me, it's probably not true."

The new "Ant-Man" film, which is slated for a summer 2015 release, will be directed by Edgar Wright and produced by Kevin Feige. Wright co-wrote the script with "Attack the Block" director Joe Cornish.

Wright, director of "Shaun of the Dead" and "The World's End," seems to want an every man for the role rather than a tough action hero, Variety said. The comic book character's alter-ego was Henry Pym, a brilliant scientist who invented a substance that allowed him to change his size and communicate with insects.

A scenario rumored early on when Wright first became part of the film is that he would focus on the later years of Ant-Man and add Scott Lang, a crook who steals Pym's technology and becomes the new Ant-Man. This possible plot twist could allow both actors to potentially become involved in the film, though this idea as of right now seems unlikely, Variety said.

According to the New York Daily News, summer 2015 will be full of action with Marvel's "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII," the "Man of Steel" sequel, which will pit Henry Cavill's Superman against Ben Affleck's "Batman," "Jurassic Park IV," "Terminator 5," Pixar's "Finding Dory" and a sequel to 1996's "Independence Day."
