Marilyn Monroe Plastic Surgery Confirmed As Medical Records Head to Auction Block (PHOTOS)

Many stars from Hollywood's golden era took secrets to their graves, and Marilyn Monroe was no exception.

But at least one mystery concerning the "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" star has been revealed and will be up for auction next month. A doctor's note on Monroe proving the actress underwent plastic surgery will be sold at auction on Nov. 9-10, according to Reuters.

"Nobody really thought about Marilyn Monroe having plastic surgery. It was always speculation-did she or didn't she?" Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, Calif., told Reuters. "They thought she was such a natural beauty, they didn't want to believe."

The collection of physician's notes, written by Hollywood plastic surgeon Michael Gurdin, includes six X-rays and is expected to be sold for between $15,000 and $30,000 at auction.

The X-rays include Monroe's frontal facial bones, a composite right and left X-ray of the sides of her nasal bones and dental X-rays of the roof of her mouth.

Gurdin's notes reference a 1950 cartilage implant in Monroe's chin, which was slowly beginning to dissolve. The surgery took place before Monroe's biggest films such as "The Seven Year Itch" in 1955 and "Some Like it Hot" in 1959.

The X-rays, which are dated June 7, 1962, reveal that the actress saw Gurdin after a late night fall that happened just two months before her mysterious death at age 36 from a barbiturate overdose. The death was ruled a probable suicide but is still a subject of controversy.

The lot also includes a radiologist's notes determining that there was no damage to Monroe's nose from the fall, but a recent evaluation of the X-rays found a minute fracture, the auction house told Reuters.

"Joan Newman" is Monroe's alias on the X-rays, which list her height as 5 feet, 6 inches and her weight as 115 lb.

A set of three chest X-rays of Monroe from 1954 sold for $45,000 at a 2010 auction. Furniture, clothing and a script copy formerly belonging to the star also went up for bid in 2009.
