Avril Lavigne may have gotten a husband from writing her newly released track "Let Me Go," but she isn't getting any love from critics.

The 29-year-old songstress wed Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger over the summer after the pair worked on her album together last year.

"So working with Chad was awesome because I found a husband and that was the best thing that came out of the experience," she joked to MTV News. "No, we had a great time. We really just celebrated music together and we both love writing and creating; it's non-stop."

Lavigne and Kroeger's duet "Let Me Go," a piano ballad equally influenced by the musical couple's respective styles, has been universally dissed by critics.

BuzzFeed responded with a piece entitled "Chad Kroeger And Avril Lavigne Made A Duet Together And It's Just As Horrible As You'd Imagine," while a particularly snarky Jezebel post called the duet "hell on Earth."

Lavigne and Kroeger penned the song last March along with nine other tracks they co-wrote for her upcoming album. By the time they married in July, they had changed the song to reflect their relationship.

"We rewrote the last chorus to put a twist on it so we end up together," Lavigne told Yahoo. "Therefore, the message of the song is more the journey of love through one's life."

"Let Me Go" is part of the lead-up to Lavigne's self-titled fifth album, which is set to release on Nov. 5.

Perhaps Lavigne can redeem herself when the 13-track record drops this fall.

The Canadian singer told MTV News, "The record's really diverse. I have a song with Marilyn Manson. I have a song called 'Hello Kitty.' It has an electronic feel. All the sounds and styles hit on sounds that I've touched on before and I've also experimented."
