The next iPhone, rumored to be called the iPhone 6, will supposedly feature a 4.8-inch display and will be released by Sept. 2014, according to the latest rumors.
Last week Peter Misek, an analyst at Jefferies LLC, said to the media that the phone won't just be bigger, but it'll have a new design as well.
"The iPhone 6 will likely have a new design and a 4.8" display," said Misek, according to The Huffington Post.
Smartphones tested by Apple have ranged from 4.8 inches to as big as 6 inches, according to the report. This would be a big increase in screen size compared to the iPhone 5's 4-inch screen.
According to research firm IDC, approximately 40 percent of smartphones sold during the first half of 2013 were larger than 4-inches, an increase of about 24 percent compared to 2012.
"When it comes right down to it, there's certainly demand, and Apple just leaves that market to its competition," Ramon Llamas, a research manager for mobile phones at IDC, said to The Huffington Post.
Both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C have 4-inch screens, and an 4.8-inch display would put the new smartphone in the same league as devices like the Moto X and HTC One, which have 4.7-inch screens.
The iPhone 6 would still have a smaller screen than the Samsung Galaxy S4 however, which has a 5-inch screen.
The next iPhone may include solar charging, a 128 GB option, a 12 MP rear camera, and a larger quad core processor.
