Justin Bieber debuted his new single "Heartbreaker" on Monday, the first of a 10-week "Music Mondays" release series.
The moody track features slower beats than his breakout "One Time" and reportedly alludes to his recent breakup with long-time girlfriend Selena Gomez.
"It's a song for people going through a heartbreak-like I was when I wrote it," Bieber wrote in the song's iTunes description. "It means so much to me to be able to share what I was and still am going through with my fans. I'm very proud of this song and I hope it gives my fans some insight into my heart."
The song's chorus includes the lyrics "Don't tell me I'm a heartbreaker/Cause, girl, my heart's breaking" as Bieber seems to be opening up about his love life.
The on and off again Bieber-Gomez relationship was a popular tabloid topic before and after the couple went public in February 2011. Gomez, an actress and a chart-topping singer in her own right, released fourth album Stars Dance in July.

The "Wizards of Waverly Place" star seemed to be referencing the breakup in her record as well with such songs as "Forget Forever," featuring bittersweet and vulnerable lyrics like "Our love was made to rule the world/You came and broke the perfect girl." While the relationship led to heartbreak, it also made for some good pop music.
"Heartbreaker" has been well-received by critics so far and was No. 1 on iTunes Tuesday morning. "Heartbreaker" and the upcoming nine songs will lead up to Bieber's new album as well as a special movie to be released at Christmas, according to a recent tweet from manager Scooter Braun.
