General Motors has a six-day supply of its 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingrays, meaning the vehicle is basically sold out as of now.
GM's Bowling Green Assembly Plant is making 17 Corvette Stingrays an hour in one shift, producing around 160 vehicles a day, according to the automaker.
"It's premature to call it a sell out," said Doran. "It's also too early to say it's in short supply. We've been shipping for a short time. We've just started opening the floodgates at the plant. You won't be able to walk down to your local Chevy dealership and buy one today. But we're not ready to say there's a massive shortage of cars."
Approximately 495 Corvette Stingrays have been delivered by GM from September 18-30.
The Bowling Green Plant is the only facility that makes the Stingray vehicles, though GM has not ruled out added a second shift.
"We never say we're not going to do something. Right now, the plant is running at capacity. We're producing cars as quickly as we can," said Doran.
GM does not keep a central waiting list, and each dealer handles the distribution of vehicles different.
People have supposedly been paying up to $20,000 to get higher on the waiting list, on top of the $51,995 base price.
"There are people willing to pay more to have the first cars," Doran said. "Once those people get their cars, I think you'll start to see things evening out."
