Chrysler to Cut 2014 SRT Viper Production Next Week

Production for the 2014 SRT Viper will be cut starting on Oct. 8 according to Chrysler.

Dealerships sold just 45 SRT Vipers in the U.S. in September and only 426 in 2013. Chrysler's Sept. production report is the most recent one released by the automaker on its company website.

Chrysler built 162 Vipers in August, and 1,030 in 2013 overall.

"Chrysler Group will be reducing production at its Conner Avenue Plant in order to align output with demand, effective Oct. 7, 2013," said Jodi Tinson, a Chrysler spokeswoman, according to Edmunds. "Once the plant reconfigures job assignments, impacted employees will be reassigned to area facilities."

The number of employees who will be reassigned has not been announced.

Analysts estimate that the automaker has approximately a year's worth of unsold vehicles.

The Vipers are built at Chrysler's Conner Avenue Plant in Detroit. The plant only builds the Viper.

Chrysler has been building on average nine vehicles a day, according to Automotive News. The revised production schedule shows just six Vipers will now be built per day.

The SRT Viper is expected to compete with the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
