At least 19 people have been stung to death by hornets in China's central Shaanxi province in the last three months, according to the city offcials

In all, 583 people in the area have been stung by hornets since July 1, and 70 victims are still recovering in hospitals.

"I ran and shouted for help, but the hornets chased me about 200 meters, and stung me for more than 3 minutes," said Chen Changlin, who was hospitalized after being attacked by hornets, according to China Youth Daily.

Changlin said hornets first attacked a woman and a small child who were working nearby. Both were killed by the hornet's toxins.

Thirty people, including 23 school children under the age of eight, were injured in a massive hornet attack in the Guangxi province, which is south of Shaanxi, according to CNN.

Almost 60 students were injured during another incident earlier this month.

Hornet's venom sting injects a neurotoxin that dissolves human tissue, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Vice Mayor Lu Qi said he would increase investment in regional hornet control, according to CNN. Mayor Xu Qifang said a plan is already underway to establish a 24-hour emergency hornet response team.
