Ford Motors announced this week it will install charging stations at over 50 of its North America plants and offices so employees can recharge their electric vehicles during the work day.
The automaker will start installing the stations and over 200 chargers this November at almost every Ford facility in the U.S. and Canada, according to Reuters.
Stations are expected to open officially during the beginning of 2014.
"We know that a growing electrified vehicle infrastructure is key to making plug-in vehicles a viable option for more consumers," said Mike Tinskey, Ford global director of vehicle electrification and infrastructure, according to Reuters.
The first four hours of charging will be free for employees, enough to completely re-charge a depleted battery on any Ford EV.
Ford has yet to reveal how much it will cost to install the charging stations.
"We're trying to be on the leading edge of a trend to offer employees the ability to have a second charge so they would charge at night (at home) and then charge at work," said Tinskey.
Ford has already set up over 1,700 stations at Ford dealerships and facilities in North America.
The number of public charging stations has increased from 3,000 to 20,000 since 2009. Ford has no plans to install chargers in public places however.
Some of the EV models Ford sells includes the Fusion Energi and C-Max Energi plug-in hybrids and the all-electric Focus.
