Tropical Storm Ingrid, which formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico on Sept. 13, is expected to bring heavy rain and flooding to Mexico's Gulf Coast throughout the weekend.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Ingrid could become a hurricane after hitting land near the Gulf coast city of Tampico on Sept. 15 or Sept. 16.

Ingrid is the ninth Tropical Storm of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season so far, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

As of Sept. 13, Ingrid's winds reached approximately 60 mph and was tracked about 60 miles east of Veracruz, Mexico, according to USA Today.

AccuWeather has predicted heavy rain, flooding, and mudslides in eastern Mexico, according to meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.

Up to 10 to 15 inches of rain is expected for the Gulf Coast, andsome locations may see 25 inches.

State officials have imposed an "orange alert" for select location in southern Veracruz. Flooding could be "life-threatening" according to U.S. National Hurricane Center.

At least 14 people were killed in Veracruz this week because of heavy rain, including 13 who died when a landslide destroyed their homes in a mountainous region in the Gulf Coast, according to AFP.

Eight of the nine confirmed storms during the 2013 season have been tropical. Only one storm has formed into a hurricane, Tropical Storm Humberto, which turned into a hurricane earlier this week.
