A tiny car constructed in Phoenix has made the Guinness World Records 2014 book as the smallest car on the planet.
The vehicle is 2 feet 1 inch high, 2 feet 1.75 inches wide, and 4 feet 1.75 inches long, according to USA Today. It's fully driveable and is licensed and registered.
"When people see me in this car the first reaction is usually 'there's no way that car is legal,' because everyone has a perception that there is a specific size requirement," said Austin Coulson in a press statement.
Since the car is classified as a low-speed vehicle, a category made for golf-cart use in retirement communities, so it's only allowed to go on local roads at 25 mph. It has a max speed of 33 mph, which Coulson said feels like 100 mph while driving.
"The Number 1 question everyone asks me is: 'What kind of fuel economy does it get?'" Coulson said. (which is 85 mpg.) "What's so silly about it is the tank is only a half-gallon. I think I lose more to evaporation than I do actually driving it."
Coulson and his fiancee have driven over 100 miles in the vehicle.
Other specs includes an 110cc, 1-cylinder engine and a fuel tank capacity of half a gallon.
The car is currently in New York where Coulson traveled for the launch of the 2014 book. They were able to meet other record holders, like the world's smallest woman, who is 2 feet seven-tenths of an inch tall.
When Coulson was a kid he would ride bikes with his friends and then go home and remove various parts to figure out where they go.
Once he turned 16 Coulson purchased a Bronco that had a blown transmission, according to USA Today. He purchased the vehicle's repair manual and learned from scratch how to take everything apart and put it back together.
Around the same time Coulson got into cars he started purchasing the Guinness World Records book every year during book fairs at school.
Coulson has planned to take the vehicle on a car-show tour, and ultimately he hopes to sell it at the Barrett-Jackson car auction next January.
