A newlywed who had concerns about her eight-day marriage confessed to pushing her husband face-first off a cliff in Glacier National Park.
Jordan Linn Graham, 22, appeared on Sept. 9 in federal court in Missoula on a second-degree murder charge for the death of her husband Cody Lee Johnson, 25, according to the Associated Press.
Graham initially claimed that Johnson had driven off with friends during the time of the incident, but his family didn't buy that store, and called for an investigation.
Johnson's body was found in a location of the park that was so "steep and rugged" a helicopter was required to pull him up.
Family and friends of Johnson knew that he loved Graham and was excited about getting married, but they didn't get the same impression from Graham. She reportedly didn't want to spend time with his family and was "aloof" when she did.
Johnson believed that Graham would change after they were married, according to the Associated Press.
"Nobody ever could have thought something like this could happen," said Johnson's mother Maness to the Associated Press.
The night that Johnson was killed, Graham said to a friend that she was having second thoughts about being married. At 9 p.m. she texted the same friend that she was going to talk to him about it.
"But dead serious if u don't hear from me at all again tonight, something happened," Graham said in a text message, according to an FBI affidavit.
Johnson was reported missing the following day when he didn't show up for work.
Graham has since admitted the two argued on the trail and at one point she went to walk away Johnson grabbed her by the arm. She tried removing his hand from her arm but due to "her anger" she pushed Johnson and he fell off the cliff.
After two months of investigations and interviews, Maness said the family is just relieved that charges have been officially determined.
"Two months probably isn't very long for an FBI investigation, but when you're waiting for answers, that's a lifetime," Maness said, according to the Associated Press.
