Toyota Recall: 780k Hybrids, Crossovers Called Back Again To Fix Suspension Defect Properly

Toyota has called back 780,584 RAV4 and Lexus HS250h vehicles to fix an issue that wasn't fixed properly the first time.

The vehicles were initially recalled the vehicles in Aug. 2012 because rear suspension components could fail. The issue could cause rust and eventually a crash, according to Toyota.

Effected vehicles include 2006-2011 RAV4 and 2010 Lexus HS250 hybrid sedans.

The automaker recently determined that nuts used to adjust the rear wheel alignment might not have been tightened enough however, according to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"(The fix) required a very specific sequence of steps to ensure the proper torque was applied, and what we found was that some dealer technicians either misunderstood or incorrectly performed this tightening procedure," Toyota spokeswoman Cindy Knight said, according to USA Today.

Toyota will begin re-notifying all owners covered in the 2012 recall soon to alert them that their vehicles might not have been inspected or repaired properly.

Dealers will be told how to properly handle the issue to make sure it gets done right this time.

If a repair is determined during an inspection, the issue will be fixed free of charge.
