Riverside Explosion Destroys Home, Damages Two Others After Gas Leak (VIDEO)

An explosion destroyed one house in Riverside, California on Sept. 6 and damaged at least two others according to NBC Los Angeles.

Police were called to the scene, which is 50 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, around 4 a.m. after neighbors heard a blast.

Once they got there, they found a house had been "completely blown up" according to Captain Bruce Vanderhorst.

"We heard an explosion, and we got out of our bed, and when I came into the front room, both windows on that side of the house, the far side of the house, (showed) nothing but fire and flames," Neighbor Wayne Keller said, according to NBC Los Angeles.

It took eight fire trucks to deal with the fire coming from a gas meter.

Fortunately the home was vacant as it's been under ongoing renovation for over a month, according to Vanderhorst.

Riverside Gas Co. investigate the main road pipeline and the line that leads up to the residence, but found no evidence of malfunctioning, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Officials still believe the explosion was caused by a gas leak that was building up inside the home.

"I thought it was an earthquake. My son said it sounded like a car hitting our house," said Mary Holley, a neighbor.
