Pinetown Accident Update: Truck Crash Kills 22, 80 Injured in South Africa (VIDEO)

A crash in Pinetown, South Africa has killed 22 people, and injured at least 80, according to the enca.com.

The crash was reportedly started by a truck, who hit at least five different vehicles according to local officials. The death tolls are expected to rise.

"The ANC (in KwaZulu-Natal) is concerned with the growing number of people dying on our roads. We call on law enforcement agencies to work hard in making sure that those who disregard the rules are put behind bars," comments African National Congress spokesman Jackson Mthembu said in a statement.

Four of the vehicles hit were minibus taxis, according to police.

A video was captured on a driver's dashcam and was posted by Rock Solid Industries, according to ENCA.

The video, shot by a vehicle waiting a red light right behind one of the taxis, has since gone viral.

The truck passed a number of different vehicles and is seen smashing right into one of the taxi cabs.

Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has opened an investigation into the cause of the crash. The driver has been arrested for reckless and negligent driving and homicide, according to the enca.com.

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to families of the deceased and those injured," said national spokesman Jackson Mthembu in a statement. "We call on communities where the victims reside to give support and assistance that will help them cope with this tragedy. The South African community must keep these families in their prayers."

Police have not indicated of the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol as of press time.
