General Motors might consider making a Chevrolet Corvette Hybrid after GM President Mark Reuss indicated the idea wasn't that far-fetched during an interview this week with the Los Angeles Times.

"Actually, don't laugh," said Reuss when speaking about the possibility of a hybrid Corvette, according to the interview.

Reuss said in the interview that he has met a number of people who love the idea of a hybrid Corvette, meaning the company could at least be thinking about releasing one sometime in the near future.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray will deliver up to an EPA-estimated 29 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg in the city, according to GM.

"I think it's a very attractive idea, actually," Reuss said. "I think it would be really fun to do, I think it would build capability inside our company and I think people would love it."

GM's new Corvette is equipped with an all-new, seven-speed manual transmission.

Those numbers would improve if a hybrid Corvette model was released.

"The Corvette Stingray establishes the benchmark for modern performance cars by using technologies to deliver more performance and more miles per gallon," said Tadge Juechter, executive chief engineer for the Corvette in a press statement. "We expect more and more performance cars will follow Corvette's example."

The 2014 Stingray coupe goes on sale this fall, and the convertible option will be released before 2014.
