Lamar Odom Arrested for DUI, Will Lose His License (VIDEO)

NBA veteran Lamar Odom was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence this week and will now have his driver's license suspended for a year.

Odom will lose his license because he refused to submit to chemical testing at a police station in California, according to the Los Angeles Times.

California Highway Patrol Officer Leland Tang said Odom was not able to complete a field sobriety test, and once he was taken to the station he refused to chemical tests to determine the level of his alleged intoxication.

"He did the one thing you should never not do: refuse the chemical tests," Tang said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Drivers that are suspected of DUI can refuse to take field sobriety tests, but once at a police station, they are required to take a chemical test. If a driver refuses, they could lose their license for up to a year.

"If you refuse to submit to any of the tests, your driving privilege may be suspended because of your refusal," according to the department's handbook. "Even if you change your mind later and agree to a test, and your BAC (blood alcohol content) measures 0.01% or higher, your driving privileges may be suspended for both reasons."

Odom was released after spending 3 and half hours in jail. He was pulled over after a California Highway Patrol officer saw him "driving erratically" on 101 Freeway in San Fernando Valley, according to Tang.

The 6-foot-10 forward posted $15,000 bond and will have to appear at Van Nuys Municipal Court on Sept. 27.
