The Chevrolet 2014 Corvette C7.R made its first public appearance this weekend at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

The CR.7 will be the successor to the C6.R according to the automaker.

Chevrolet said the new racer will debut officially at January's Rolex 24, and will compete at Le Mans and other races throughout next year.

The new car wasn't completely revealed this weekend however, as Chevrolet kept the C7.R under black and white checkerboard camouflage.

Corvette driver Tommy Milner was behind the wheel of the new car over the weekend at the Laguna Seca racetrack.

Milner took the CR.7 for a hard "parade lap" around the racetrack, much to the delight of the hundreds attending the event.

Chevrolet had not announced prior to the event that the new racer would be making an appearance on Aug. 17.

The racecar is being built by Pratt & Miller according to Chevrolet.
