Police found 40 ball pythons in a motel room on Aug. 15 in Brantford, Ontario, just 65 miles away from Toronto.

The room was being used by four people, two of which were children, according to CNN.

Brantford Police Sergeant Cheney Venn told CNN that the Children's Aid Society of Brant is investigating to make sure the children are okay.

No arrests have been made, nor have any charges been filed as of press time.

It is illegal to own a python in Brantford according to CNN.

"It appeared as though they were being kept for breeding purposes" Venn said to CNN. "(They) were not being suitably cared for and were in distress. The anxious officers called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals who attended and took 40 pythons into their care."

The pythons ranged from 1 foot to 4 1/2 feet, and each was stored in "several plastic storage bins" according to Venn.

The Bell City Motel where the pythons were found has a "not pets allowed" policy.

The pythons were seized by the county's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, according to executive director Robin Kuchma.
